Being busy can feel like playing whack-a-mole. As soon as you knock out one thing, several more pop up. It’s enough to put your head in a tailspin, but you don’t have to let stress get the best of you. Instead, you can prove just how strong your time management skills are by knowing how to organize and pace yourself. These tips will help you accomplish your tasks with ease.
Delegate Where You Can
Getting things done doesn’t mean you have to do them all by yourself. Behind every visionary is a team of people who made it possible. Delegation lets you take it relatively easy while others take care of things. You’ll need to outline your vision and consult with them to make sure they’re following your instructions. Don’t use delegation as a time to lord over others. Use it as a time to show just how much of a leader you are.
Choose an Organization Method
Organization alone isn’t the solution to staying on top of things. You need to understand the different styles of organization and which kinds best suits your needs. There are four types of process organization: job shop, batch, line, and continuous flow. Which one works best for you depends on what type of product you have. Batch organization involves handling multiple tasks at once, like online orders. Job shop organization is popular in manufacturing. Line organization is used in a hierarchy system, such as in an office. Continuous flow is in opposition to the batch organization, as it involves taking care of one thing at a time. Assess your needs as a business owner and determine which system is best for you.
When you can’t keep track of all you have to do, it might seem like it doesn’t make any difference whether you get something done right away or put it off until the last minute. However, the reason many find themselves drowning in tasks is because of how much they end up procrastinating. While more complex assignments take time, basic ones like answering emails should be done as soon as they come in. Procrastination is a cause of so much stress in life but it’s far easier to undo than you might realize.
Juggling tasks is just like juggling balls. You have to start slowly and get comfortable handling a few before you can handle large quantities. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, things can be far easier on you. As long as you’re in the right state of mind and can keep your head up, your tasks won’t get the best of you.
